Here is a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) we get at the museum.

Where are you located?

The Wieghorst Museum is located at 131 Rea Avenue in downtown El Cajon.

How much does admission cost?

Except for special events, admission to the Wieghorst Museum is free. We appreciate donations.

When are you open?

The Wieghorst Museum and the Cactus Garden are open on Fridays 11 am to 3 pm and Saturdays from noon to 4 pm. We are open on other days by appointment.  Please note: If you are coming from any distance, call (619) 590-3431 in advance to confirm the Museum is open. The Museum is staffed by volunteers only and occasionally we may be closed when volunteers are not available.

Where can I park?

Museum parking is available on Rea Avenue and in nearby municipal parking lots.

Who was Olaf Wieghorst?

Olaf Wieghorst was a famous artist who lived in El Cajon from 1945 until his death in 1988. Read more about Olaf.

Is the Museum appropriate for children?

The Wieghorst Museum is a community resource for children of all ages. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome. Children can learn about art, the old west, ranch life, horses and the values that are part of our American heritage.

Can we visit Olaf’s House?

Olaf Wieghorst’s original El Cajon home was moved to Museum property in 1999. It was designated an El Cajon Historic Resource in 2008 and opened to the public in 2009. Meticulously restored, it is open for tours on days when sufficient staffing allows. Call ahead to make sure a volunteer docent is available. (619) 590-3431

Can I rent the Wieghorst for a private event?

The Wieghorst Museum offers a small, multipurpose event space amongst exhibits of world class western themed art. It is suited best for meetings, receptions, news conferences, award ceremonies and/or small outdoor events. The museum offers low cost, flexible pricing for community and fraternal organizations, non-profits, businesses, senior citizen, youth and educational groups as a way to introduce their members to the museum.

Where can I get information about Wieghorst art?

Part of the mission of the Olaf Wieghorst Museum Foundation is to educate and make available information about Olaf, his art, and the western heritage he sought to preserve. We welcome questions about all things Wieghorst. Contact the museum by phone (619) 590-3431 or EMAIL us. We will try to help.

Are donations to the Museum tax deductible?

The Olaf Wieghorst Museum Foundation is a non-profit organization as defined in Section 501 (c)(3) of the IRS Code. ID number 33-0799944. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible within limits applicable to individual situations as set forth in tax law.

Are you a member of Time Travelers?

The Olaf Wieghorst Museum is a member of Time Travelers, a free reciprocal membership network of historical museums, sites, and societies throughout the United States.

What is the OW2C (or OW quarter circle 2C) symbol?

OW2C is the logo of the Olaf Wieghorst Museum. You can read about its history here.
