David Joseph Lund Obituary

The Olaf Wieghorst Museum mourns the passing of long-time museum volunteer
David Joseph Lund (1955-2025).

David Joseph Lund of El Cajon, California died at home on August 1, 2025. David was born in Natchez, Mississippi on June 22, 1955 to Edward Alan Lund and Linnie May (Lishman) Lund. He moved to Chula Vista with his family at the age of four. He graduated from Hilltop High School in 1973. His career took him to various jobs, notably for Nelson & Sloan and Southwest Marine. For fifteen years he worked at the Barona Resort and Casino where he was responsible for development and maintenance of the resort’s rose garden.

David was a member of the San Diego Rose Society and a local cribbage club. After retirement he became an avid volunteer, providing gardening services for neighbors and for the Olaf Wieghorst Museum and its botanical garden.

David was outgoing and friendly. He would help anybody. He was funny, had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around with people.

David leaves behind a wife, Jan, of thirty-five (35) years, two sons David and Zachary, as well as four siblings, Edward Lund, Louis Lund, Bruce Lund and Peggy Lund.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Olaf Wieghorst Museum, 131 Rea Avenue, El Cajon, CA on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 4:00 p.m.
